Hello November!
This is the month of thanks and in honor of that, I wanted to extend a challenge to all of you. The way I see it, why should being thankful be relegated to only one day in this month, let alone the entire year? I am thankful EVERY SINGLE DAY for EVERYTHING that I have, get, am blessed with, have escaped….well, the list is endless. Whether you believe it or not, even the annoying, frustrating, irritating, negative stuff should merit a “Thank You” to whatever higher power you believe in (or don’t believe in). I’m often reminded of how we should be thankful for every little thing no matter how trivial. Writing down or even merely reflecting upon one thing each day will make you feel good (whether you realize it or not). It doesn’t have to be an oratorio, it could be a simple utterance of one word. Trust me, whomever you express it to, whether God or the universe, the message is clear and the sentiment behind it is understood. So I challenge you to share with us what you’re thankful for – and please feel free to tell a story or just leave a word or two in the comments section.
Here’s what I’ll share to start you off and inspire you, a personal story of mine….
(Please remember that my list of thanks is not in any particular order of importance and each one is equally important).
DAY 1:
This may surprise many, but I am thankful for the people who have offended me, wronged me and otherwise grace me with negative vibes. Let me give an example: last week I was in a car accident. Physically, I was ok, but I am still reeling emotionally and mentally. You see, it was my first accident and I just can’t seem to get past the events in my head. A lot of people tell me that it will get better with time, but I am on edge constantly. My car took the brunt of the damage and I am still going through the motions of the aftermath. The reason I am thankful is because the accident could have been MUCH worse. I am not minimizing the accident in any way, but I am thankful to be alive. The girl who hit me as well as the negative people in my life (yes, there’s quite a few of them and no, I cannot avoid them) are constant reminders of how life is – it’s not always going to be peaches and cream. These people were put into our lives to keep us in check – it keeps life rich and teaches us many lessons. As much as we all hate their presence sometimes, it’s that exact presence that makes us appreciate all the good in life – the good people, the blessings, and everything else that’s positive. This reflection has been, by far, one of THE hardest to be thankful for, but I hope it puts things into perspective for you.
What are YOU thankful for? Let’s get this ‘Gratitude Wagon’ going and let’s put it out there! The reward may not be obvious or physical, but your soul, your being, and your mind will definitely be enriched and rewarded. Please share what you’re thankful for and make sure you include #ThanksAndGratitude. Depending on the response we get, we’ll try to share some of the best entries, and there may possibly be something to be thankful for at the end of this month….stay tuned!
XOXOXOXO,
