It’s May 5th! And, we all know what that means. It’s time to celebrate. But before we do that, let’s get the facts….Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) is not Mexico’s Independence Day. It’s to honor and remember the freedom and democracy during the first few years of the Civil War. Also, it’s a day observed to remember the unlikely victory over the French army.
For many years, Cinco de Mayo was primarily celebrated in the Mexico and the Southwest part of the United States.Well, all of that has changed now……Cinco de Mayo is celebrated in Europe, Canada, Australia, Caribbean and even Asia.
It’s pretty cool, huh? So, my question to you is, “how are you going to celebrate?”
If you are not sure, then I have a few suggestions for you. First of all, parades and street festivals are great because they are fun and it brings people together to enjoy the Mexican culture. And, it’s always the option of going out to eat for some really good Mexican cuisine (Last year, Eileen and I went to Don Ricardo’s. yum! ) Of course, taking a nice little vacation to Mexico isn’t a bad idea either (I did that a few years ago and had a blast).
Well how ever you celebrate Cinco de mayo, I hope you have a good one. And, make it a point to learn something new about the Mexican culture. Understanding each other better makes world a better place. So, leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts. Until next time!
Hugs,
