What an awesome experience! Laticia and I FINALLY got to do the drive experience sponsored by Circuit 1 and Mohegan Sun, which was held at Nassau Coliseum. This event has been a long time coming and I can’t believe the day finally arrived! We made plans to meet before heading off to the coliseum so we can get there in ample time – it’s a good thing we did, since we ended up having to circle the Coliseum to find the appropriate entrance. There weren’t too many signs on the major roadway leading to the Coliseum and we were getting a bit anxious that we wouldn’t make it in time. The rules specifically stated to arrive 20 minutes prior to our scheduled drive time. In any event, after many “dead ends”, we finally found the entry we were supposed to go through and immediately the excitement washed over us as we saw the cars that were being offered up. From a distance, we could already see a Ferrari and a Lamborghini. The line of people added to the adrenaline of the event. As we pulled up to the event, we could see family members strewn down the sidelines taking photos and videos. As we got out of the car, I could see (in my peripheral vision) a Porsche in a far, far distance. You see, I have quite the radar for this car, seeing as I have been obsessed with it since I was a little girl! I immediately dismissed its presence only because I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Based on the website and through Twitter chats with Circuit One, I planned the car of my choosing for this event to be the Ferrari. I tweeted to Circuit One and asked if they’ll EVER have my dream car – they said not as of yet and maybe someday they’ll have it in their fleet. I tweeted back that I would be a repeat customer if they got Porsche into the lineup. Well, lo and behold, it turns out the Porsche wasn’t someone’s personal vehicle, but was actually part of the experience.
We went ahead and registered and just being in close proximity to these cars made my heart race. I literally couldn’t concentrate and the excitement was overwhelming! We found out that the Porsche was part of the experience and what sweetened the pot was that there was no wait for it! HO. LY. COW. Naturally, we opted to go for that car…whatever preconceived notion I had immediately got thrown out the window! I felt like paparazzi and it was like a photo shoot with the Porsche…it was finally our turn and I could literally feel the adrenaline rush as I was getting ready to hop in the driver’s seat. Laticia went first because I needed to control my nerves. (This wasn’t my first time driving a Porsche, but my first Porsche actually was a Cayenne (their SUV) – quite a different feel and perspective!) Anyway Laticia did her laps and as it turned out she got an extra lap from the drive instructor, Nikko. The reason this happened is because some other guy in the Lamborghini was taking his time around the laps and she couldn’t accelerate to its fullest potential. Thankfully, when I drove, no one else was on the track and I kicked it into high gear. TALK. ABOUT. FAST.
I crawled to the start of the track and Nikko told me to “GO.” How can a two-letter word be SO dangerous? I floored it and at first it was a typical acceleration for any car and after about two seconds, VROOOOOOOOOOOMMMM! It took off so fast, I felt as if the car was going to take off much like an airplane. People know how fast a Porsche is by definition, but you don’t know the TRUE meaning of fast until you get behind the wheel of this car! Whatever awe I had was solidified and my love for Porsche was truly solidified as well. The laps went quick and I was so proud when Nikko told me I handled the car really well. I told him that Porsche has been my dream since I was very young and he echoed my sentiment. We conversated during the drive and he told me that this was the first day EVER that they had the car, which was clearly a new addition to the fleet. He told me that they usually try to get cars people like to drive and Porsche is relatively new for them – this was in response to my question regarding the 918 Spyder. (For those of you who are not exactly Porsche aficionados like myself, that regular model of that car basically starts at $845,000 base.) I felt special that a request I tweeted was honored and it came to fruition. The demand and requests must’ve been enough to merit them including it into their fleet! What was odd is that there is no wait, but I chalked it up to the fact that people probably perceive the Porsche to be a bit more common than the other models they had there; but upon close inspection, the particular model of the Porsche they had wasn’t a regular one, but the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet – a car that commands $194,600 base price). Nikko told me that he would love to take me on a ride along so he can show me just what the far is truly capable of…for a discounted price. Turns out the ‘discount’ was $50 for 3 laps. I decided to do a ride along for my next experience!
We continued to marvel at the other cars present – the Ferrari was sidelined and ‘resting’. Check out our video by the Ferrari:
It seemed like the Lamborghinis were quite popular! The bright yellow and the silver ones were really being driven into the ground! All in all a great experience and I highly recommend it! We are dying to do it again! Stay tuned…
Have you ever driven a fast car? If so, tell me your experiences! I’d love to hear it!
