I am thankful for music. There’s something about a melodic tune that elicits certain responses. I have quite a collection of music on my iPod and I’m always amazed at how certain music fits my mood at a particular moment and how my mood fits certain music that’s playing. Music is also powerful in that it also elicits specific memories that we attach to it.
I listen to all kinds of music – classical, pop, rock, heavy metal, Motown, oldies, and even some ethnic music. I have Indian songs, Russian songs, Filipino songs….true, I may not understand every single word, but if a melody is good, I’ll listen to it. I’ve even resorted to looking up the lyrics of these songs so I can sing along, even though I may not know the meaning of every word. I’ve had friends translate meaning of songs for me, so at least I have an idea.
Music can make me feel ‘hoity toity” (Classical), or pump me up for a workout (Special playlist). Sometimes I’ll even listen to Zumba songs in my car and I’ll feel my body having the urge to do some Zumba moves. NEVER while driving, only when I’m parked in a parking lot. I’m not dangerous like that. An instructor of mine said that it’s called “Car-eography”. Pretty ingenious! I also love Karaoke. It’s a great form of stress relief and I feel like a true diva when I can belt out a tune like I own the room! (It helps that my friends and family are stuck with me and have to act like my groupies.)
I love music so much that I play the piano and I sing. Music has such a power to be transforming, shaping us in a way no other medium can. As a matter of fact, there IS such a thing as Music Therapy! Great stuff!
Music can make travel go faster too….when I’m on a flight and I know it’s going to be a long one, I make sure my iPod is loaded and the battery charged….before I know it, I’m at my destination. (I’m still not sure how they time the disembarkation of the plane with my most favorite songs! Haha.)
What pumps YOU up for a workout? What do YOU have on your iPod? I’m always looking for new songs, so I’m open to any suggestions you have….I would love to expand my collection! Feel free to share any thoughts or suggestions!
XOXOXOXO.
