I am thankful for flowers. There seems to be something so magical about them. Their beauty brings such happiness and joy. For me it doesn’t matter what kind of flower – they’re all beautiful. What I love about them is what they symbolize. They can represent quite a range of things from love to the existence of a higher presence.
Roses are the quintessential, classic flower that represents love and friendship. The range of colors is amazing – the deep reds to the yellow-orange combination that looks like fire. The white ones, the pink ones…all of them are gorgeous! Although extremely rare, even the black ones are beautiful.
One of my favorite flowers is the sunflower. There is something about that flower that elicits a smile on my face. Maybe it’s because it reminds me of the sun (since it looks like sunshine) and it the summertime. It just makes me happy and I can never resist having sunflowers in the house when I see them at a floral shop, roadside stand, or even the grocery store.
There’s a gorgeous flower native to the Philippines that has a beautiful aroma. The name of it is a Sampaguita and a typical plant will have small white flowers. It’s in the Jasmine family. (The picture above is one of a few Sampaguita flowers.) Trust me, when you smell it, the aroma is sweet and pleasant, never pungent. Some children will even take the flowers and make a necklace out of it. Gorgeous and aromatic!
Flowers also act as a reminder that life is coming back to bloom in the Spring. Once I see the first blooms peeking through the rough, cold, hard ground of Winter, a feeling stirs in me that Spring is on its way and pleasant weather is just around the corner.
I think a great place to visit to see gorgeous flowers would be Holland. I’ve only seen it in pictures, but it just seems so beautiful that experiencing it is on the bucket list. Who wouldn’t want to see the windmill with all the tulips in front of it? The vast spectrum of colors is gorgeous and I bet pictures don’t do justice to the true beauty of it all.
Anyone ever been to Holland and see these windmills and tulips? Anyone ever seen a Sampaguita or taken in its beautiful aroma? Please share – I’d love to hear it!
