I wanted to take the time to be thankful for vacations. I’m taking about all vacations – staycations, do nothing vacations, exotic vacations……
Taking time off for a much needed rest should be mandatory. Everyone needs a rest – whether they work or not. A brief respite is always in order and can be what we need to get a “reset” to be able to handle whatever else life may throw at us. Taking a vacation doesn’t necessarily mean you have to travel, although travel is what we all would love to do!
A day off at home can also be a vacation, provided you take it easy during that time off. If you schedule a lot of things to do, it becomes, in essence, a ‘working vacation’ – even if you’re not doing anything work-related!
Staycations have become quite popular. Often times, many people want to get away and do something different, but don’t have the budget to go on a lavish vacation. Sometimes staycations can be better than a lavish vacation – you just have to be creative! There are so many possibilities for things to do on a budget and you would be surprised to learn about the hidden treasures in your own backyard! If this is up your alley, you should definitely do some research and you’d be surprised with what you come up with and how much you can save.
Lavish vacations are always a dream, but if one thing’s for sure, everyone should travel to the best of their ability. Even if you only go on one extravagant vacation in your life, you should make sure it’s a good one and something you will always have fond memories of. Whatever route you decide to go with, whether it’s a cruise, or to fly to an exotic destination, or a road trip, make sure you prepare well. The more extensive the vacation, the more planning is involved. Thankfully, there are many tools out there that make it easier to plan and execute your vacation plans. Travel search engines are a valuable tool and sometimes I wonder how we got by without it.
The prep work is equally important – lists, itineraries, shopping…make sure you do your homework so that everything can ATTEMPT to go as planned. One important thing: take many pictures! It’s always fun to relive the memories and can a source of happiness.
Here’s a funny anecdote: I sometimes go to my “happy place” when I get really stressed out and it becomes like a mini vacation – even if it’s in my mind. It helps me to keep the stress in check and it helps me to focus and grounded. The only downside is that it doesn’t last long and it seems like such a tease, but I’d rather have a few seconds or minutes to re-focus rather than go crazy and have my blood pressure shoot up!
Vacations are good for your health no matter what kind you take. Make sure you that you take a few in your lifetime because they build great memories and because they are quite the experience!
Anybody have any suggestions for a good place to visit? Any stories or anecdotes to share? I’d love to hear it!
