Well, I wanted to squeeze this in before the night is over….
So I’m pretty sure people have forgotten that today’s a somewhat monumentous day. Although not everyone is not Christian (read: Catholic), everyone speaks the language of Fat Tuesday. Historically, it’s the day before Ash Wednesday and from what I’ve heard it’s called this name because it’s the day that people pig out, go crazy and libations run wild. This is all to mark the beginning of the Lenten season where observers fast and abstain from meat on Friday as well as Ash Wednesday. A lot of people still hold try to the age old tradition of giving up something for Lent. I personally give up meat – it’s not easy! Someone suggested chocolate and I tried, but failed miserably. I don’t want to do a disservice to God, but I want to still honor what the Lenten season means.
Just some food for thought….no pun intended. Haha.
Maybe one day I’ll be reporting from New Orleans where the biggest Fat Tuesday celebration happens….Mardi Gras is a fun time and I still have yet to experience it!
So what are YOUR traditions for Fat Tuesday? Any thoughts?
