Now, I’m pretty sure you heard a lot of hoopla about the World Cup. It’s everywhere and I’m hearing so many women tell me they don’t understand the World Cup at all. Well, I’m going to clear that up for you. So the next time you are involved in a world cup conversation, you will can speak up and shock everyone……
First of all, the World Cup started in 1930 and comes around every 4 years. Over 250 million players from 200 countries play soccer and the sport is governed by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). International soccer teams go through a 3 year qualification phrase to determine which teams will compete for the World Cup Final.
In order to get to the World Cup Final, teams have to go through 2 rounds. In round 1, 32 qualified teams are put into 8 groups. Each team plays other teams in their group one time. Then, each team is awarded points; 3 points for a win. 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. The teams with the most amount of points move on to the 2nd round.
During round 2, each team plays an eliminating match. Once you lose, then you go home. And, each team keeps playing until there is 1 team left standing. The winner of the World Cup receives an 18 carat solid gold trophy.
