I know, I get it. COVID-19 stomped all over my travel plans too. With CDC travel restrictions and canceled cruises, my Miami and Bahamas trip poofed into the air. My first reaction was “What, it’s Memorial Day weekend and I’m staying at home?!” Really, that was my first reaction. It’s definitely not my style. And, I can bet it’s not your cup of tea either. So, what are travel globetrotter gals like us are supposed to do?
Well listen up, I have an idea. Just because you’re not on a plane doesn’t mean you can’t make the most of your staycation. No, I haven’t gone mad or crazy. With COVID-19, we have to do things differently. So, I came up with the ultimate Staycation Package Plan. Let me roll it out for you.
- For starters, you need to take a breather and relax. No one expected COVID-19 to have so many impacts and quick changes in our lives. With that said, a virtual yoga class might be in order to calm your stress and worries. Once you get your muscles to loosen up then you can do a live dance party or sweat it out in a virtual workout class. Adding to the fun, make sure you catch PBS’s Bare Feet TV Host, Mickela Mallozzi home edition interviewing professional musicians and dancers from around the globe. You might pick up a few real-time dance and music lessons.
- Be entertained with live performances and concerts. New York City’s Metropolitan Opera had to cancel its 2019-2020 season and allowing people to stream their encore presentations every night at 7:30 pm EST from the Met’s Opera website. Also, in the same fashion, New York City’s Ballet and The Berlin Philharmonic are featuring free performances from their archives too.
- Most travelers like us love culture and history. So, a virtual museum tour will be right up your alley. And, thanks to Google Arts and Culture collection, you can get virtual tours to over 2,000 museums from around the world include Guggenheim Museum, The Louvre Museum, American Museum of National History, and more.
- After you take your virtual museum tour, Why not get a deeper meaning and understanding of artwork collections with MoMA online art courses. Or maybe you just want to learn how to paint with your buddies with a virtual painting class with Yaymaker. Either way is fine.
- Of course, travelers lovers like us LOVE to try new dishes and cuisines. So, taking a crack at new dishes are all part of the experience. Several chefs and culinary experts and connoisseurs are giving virtual cooking lessons on live streams on Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook.
- Exploring is part of a travelers’ DNA, so virtual hiking trails from different parts of the world would be exciting….experience them right here.
- At the end of your day, grab all of your bath gel, scented body oil, bath bombs, and candles you got for Christmas and create the most amazing spa day for yourself and chill.
So, there it is…the ultimate Staycation Package Plan. I tried most of these things andI’m having a blast. COVID-19 may have to ruin your travel plans but it doesn’t have to stop you from having fun. Tell me what you did this holiday weekend. Just curious to know and would love to hear from you. Leave a comment below.

Great tips – and it wouldn’t be a staycation without a bit of bath time pampering lol
