With 1 month down, I’m checking up on how you are doing with your New Year Travel Resolution. I know when the clock struck midnight, you probably started the New Year saying, “I will travel more.” It sounds good to me! Who wouldn’t want to do more of what they love? But, have you thought about how you are going to travel more? C’mon savvy girl, I think it’s time to come up with a game plan.
On my “Travel lover’s New Year’s Resolution” list, I mentioned that finding more creative and economical ways to travel are major ingredients to travelling more. Being creative is different from being economical yet they can be one in the same. Let me explain….
When Eileen and I went to Tampa, we brought a 4 day Expedia vacation package including (round trip airfare, car rental and hotel) for $420.00…..that was economical. However, when I go out to eat with friends, I would tell them to give me the amount they owe in cash and I would pay the whole bill with my American Express card. Why? Because every dollar put on my AMEX card would give me points even though every dollar that was put on my AMEX card didn’t come out of pocket. So, I redeemed points for free airline tickets without running up my AMEX card….that’s creative. Now, the goal is to be creative and economical. Think about it, how great it would’ve been to redeem my points to pay for the vacation package?
Trust me on this, creativity opens the door to being economical which leads to travelling more than you can imagine. It’s called travel hacking. No worries, travel hacking isn’t as bad as it sounds…nothing shady here. It’s earning frequent flyer miles to fly (stay at hotels or rent cars) around the world for free or close to nothing. I’ve been doing it for years. I travel hacked to Miami, West Palm Beach, Charlotte N.C., Raleigh/Durham, Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, Reno/Lake Tahoe, Denver, Atlanta and I even snag a free airline ticket to San Diego.
But I have to tell you, there’s a science to all of this. There’s a right and wrong way to travel hack and it can get really messy. You don’t have to be concerned because I going to guide you through it. So, I want you to stay tune for my “travel hacking” series. Once you learn the tricks to the trade, then the world is your oyster. Let’s chat and leave me a comment.
Hugs,

Great post. I’ve always wanted to travel more but been the type of person who always makes excuses not to. Thank you for being so inspirational.
